Integrated Media Workshops

While at CalArts, James got to participate in many great workshop projects that combined theater, projection mapping, immersive art, and games. An integrated video workshop included a performance of scenes from 1984 told with video content designed by James and a two-man show with swapped faces.

One workshop went on to be performed called Aquarium. The set was designed as a fish bowl with the audience circling the outside of three performance spaces. They were divided into three groups by a website on their phones and told where to stand and when to see one of two scenes or be part of the interactive third station. The second screen experience was timed along with the scenes to provide additional content that enhanced the scene, and the interactive portion recontextualized the experience based on the order that group was sent to see the scenes. James was a writer and producer on the project, coordinating the audience movement and interactive elements specifically. He also acted in one of the scenes.
